This one of a kind stunning double handled lidded vase was made circa 1750 in China and is carved from natural untreated white nephrite jade. The low relief carving is exceptional and consists of exquisite symmetrical borders separating floriate bands.
It is a tall vase measuring 9 1/4" tall including the lid by 4 3/16" wide by 2 9/16" deep with the lid itself being 2 3/8" tall (235mm x 106mm x 65mm, 61mm) White nephrite jade is the most valuable color for this gem material and was reserved for imperial use. Prior to jadeite becoming widely available in China which occured circa 1850 (only rare examples were known before this in China) the most highly prized jade was translucent white nephrite. This color and quality of nephrite was reserved for imperial use. This jade is of very fine quality being translucent throughout and having good consistency of color across the vase. It weighs approximately 756 grams.
Dating to the Qianlong period 1739 to 1795 this special antique jade vase is around 270 years old. It is in good condition and presents well.
To one side there are some age related cracks. These are shown in the photographs. The age related features stated are commensurate with the authenticity of the piece and not uncommon in these pieces from the 18th century and earlier. This beautiful vase is very special indeed and would make a beautiful addition to any collection of the finest Chinese antiques.
